Here Comes the Lords...

I recently had the opportunity to meet the hip-hop trio Lords of the Underground (LOTUG) after their performance at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on March 15th, 2024.

Where they shared the night with talents

The Pharcyde, MCM Caveman, and Cutmaster Swift.

Formed in Newark, New Jersey, in 1989, LOTUG consists of Dupré "Do It All" Kelly, Al'Teriq "Mr. Funke" Nelson, and Bruce "DJ Lord Jazz" Colston. Emerging during hip hop's golden era in the early 1990s, they quickly gained recognition for their unique blend of lyrical mastery, authentic storytelling, and respect for the genre's roots.

I grew up listening to LOTUG, and they quickly became one of my favorite hip hop groups. On that night, Do It All and Mr. Funke commanded the stage with their infectious energy, while DJ Lord Jazz impressed the crowd with his skillful turntablism.

Their performances is a testament to their enduring influence and talent. I have seen them perform before, I can attest that this is their standard so you will never leave disappointed. :)

As a tribute to their impact on my life and hip hop culture, I had to create a vinyl art painting honouring them and this is where I was fortunate enough to have them sign it for me and have some great conversations.

LOTUG's legacy continues to thrive, reminding us of the power of music to inspire and unite people across generation.
