I got the chance to meet Laz Alonso at MCM Comic Con London October 2025, and it was so good to meet him. Fans know him most recently as Mother’s Milk (MM) from The Boys, but his career spans a variety of memorable roles, including Fenix Calderon in Fast & Furious, Na'vi warrior Tsu'tey in Avator as well as appearances in Jarhead, This Christmas, Miracle at St. Anna, and Detroit.

What makes Laz’s portrayal of MM stand out isn’t just his acting, it’s the way he subtly honors Hip Hop culture. Each episode features him wearing tees that pay tribute to legendary artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, and A Tribe Called Quest. These wardrobe choices aren’t j
ust for show they reflect Laz’s personal respect for Hip Hop and make MM feel grounded, relatable, and authentic.

At the meet-and-greet, I had the incredible opportunity to give Laz a vinyl art painting I created of Eric B & Rakim’s Paid in Full. Laz shared how much the album influenced him growing up and how it was part of his everyday soundtrack. Seeing him connect with the artwork was such a rewarding moment, it reminded me how powerful shared cultural memories can be.
Of course, it’s Comic Con, so dressing up is part of the fun! I wore a Mother’s Milk-inspired outfit using my own collection of Hip Hop tees. But these aren’t just for the convention, they’re what I actually wear every day. So while I may have looked like I was cosplaying MM, I was genuinely just being me. 🙂

With the next season of The Boys on the horizon, it’s exciting to imagine what new nods to Hip Hop Laz might bring to MM. Meeting him in person—and sharing a piece of my own art with him—was a reminder of how much thought and care goes into every detail of his character, down to the tees he wears in each episode.
